How much do Airbnb pet fees cost?

Airbnb lets hosts set their own pet fees, and they vary from nothing at all to over $200 for a stay. Most land between $25 and $75. The fee appears in the price breakdown before you confirm the booking, so there should be no surprises. Always read the listing's pet policy carefully, because some hosts approve pets in principle but add restrictions in the house rules.

How Airbnb pet fees work

Hosts opt in to accepting pets and then set a fee independently. The fee can be structured as a flat charge per stay or as a nightly rate. Both appear in the total price breakdown on the booking page, alongside the cleaning fee and any other charges, before you confirm and pay. The fee is non-refundable once the stay is confirmed, the same as the cleaning fee. Airbnb does not set or cap the amount, so the range across the platform is wide.

What the fee covers

The pet fee is a surcharge for accepting an animal, not a specific service. Most hosts use it to cover additional cleaning and to offset wear on the property. A small number of hosts include pet amenities like beds, bowls and treats as part of the welcome and charge accordingly. The fee does not cover damage caused by the pet. Damage is a separate matter handled through Airbnb's Resolution Centre.

What to check before booking

Look at the house rules section of the listing, not just the pet-friendly tag. Some hosts allow pets but add weight limits, breed restrictions, or a requirement that pets are not left alone in the property. Some require the pet to sleep in a crate. These restrictions do not always appear prominently and are discovered at the property if you do not check first. Message the host before booking if anything is unclear.

If you book a pet-free listing

Bringing a pet to a listing that does not allow them is a breach of Airbnb's terms and the host's house rules. Hosts can report it and claim damage through the Resolution Centre. Airbnb can remove your account for repeated violations. If your circumstances change after booking, contact the host directly before you arrive. Some hosts will make an exception; most will not. Do not assume forgiveness.
